IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/16/10 -- YouMail Inc. (www.youmail.com), provider of cutting-edge digital secretary services for managing mobile voicemail, today announced the general release of an Open API (http://api.youmail.com) for developers. By opening up the many skills of YouMail's digital secretary with the Open API, developers will be able to embed the voice-to-text transcriptions and other message handling services from YouMail's enterprise-class mobile voicemail platform into their new applications.
The YouMail Open API available at http://api.youmail.com, allows developers to:
1. Create YouMail accounts that provide visual voicemail services and
personalized greetings for unanswered phone calls
2. Invoke voice-to-text transcription services with routing via email or
mobile texting
3. Invoke "drop box" services that reroute voice messages from general
inboxes to individuals or groups
4. Manage the storage, accessibility, retention and compliance of messages
long term
By using YouMail's robust and reliable Open API, developers can rapidly deliver voicemail-based services to their customers that increase revenue, usage and customer loyalty. In addition, YouMail will feature new applications that leverage the mobile voicemail platform to YouMail's existing customer base of more than one million registered users.
Using the Open API, developers can integrate YouMail voice services into a variety of systems and applications, including:
- Enterprise applications, such as call-center software, CRM applications, and office productivity tools
- Vertical applications that store customer or client data, such as for legal, real estate and medical practices
- Office and specialty telephony and PBX systems
- Mobile applications that run on iPhone OS, Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Symbian, or other Java-enabled feature phones.
"We're excited to see the creative approaches developers are taking to bring YouMail functionality to their user communities," said Alex Quilici, YouMail's CEO. "We used the API ourselves to build our iPhone, Blackberry, and Android applications so it has been well-tested and proven to be robust and very easy to use."
One early adopter of the YouMail mobile platform, Syntactix, used the beta version of the API to develop YouView, a visual voicemail application for the Palm Pre. "The YouView application has already driven significant revenue to us as Palm Pre users embrace tools that save time and give them more flexibility and control over their communications," said Greg Hrebek, Syntactix's CEO. "Working with the YouMail API was very straightforward, letting us build, test, and release our application in a matter of weeks."
Another application comes from Loopback Communications, which provides follow-up to patients that have been recently discharged from the hospital. The app helps hospital staff identify patients that may need additional help and collect patient satisfaction data regarding their hospital visit. Loopback's solution embeds the YouMail's platform to manage and transcribe free-form feedback captured as patient voice messages.
"Using automated voice-to-text services from YouMail, hospital staff gain much more robust and actionable information than that provided by typical surveys, and patient responses can be easily routed to appropriate hospital staff for follow up," said Patrick Kelly, CIO of Loopback Communications. "Our customers love the fast and easy handling of voice messages as text, and we saved significant time and money by using the YouMail Open API versus manual inbound call handling."
