RightScale and NorthScale, which already sound like they’re related, have integrated NorthScale’s Membase NoSQL database software into RightScale’s cloud management platform so now RightScale people can dynamically scale-out high-demand, elastic applications in their RightScale environment.
It’s touted as a solution for web applications with variable, extremely high scaling needs such as social games because NorthScale’s Membase Server is supposed to store web application data more efficiently and cost-effectively than a relational database and lets organizations deploy a highly available, cloud-friendly data layer that expands and rebalances dynamically as application needs change.
The integration leverages RightScale’s pre-packaged ServerTemplates to make it easier to deploy, manage and scale Membase in cloud-based environments.
NorthScale customers can sign up for RightScale’s Free Edition and upgrade to RightScale Standard or Premium Editions for more cloud management features and functionality.
NorthScale is the primary database for Zynga’s popular social games FarmVille and Café World and provides a shared data management platform for NHN, Korea’s largest web application operator with nearly 70 million unique users. It also operates the memcached service behind the Heroku Cloud Platform.
Founded in last year, NorthScale is funded by Accel Partners, Mayfield Fund and North Bridge Venture Partners.
