Project Planning Software Competes With Microsoft

LA HABRA, CALIFORNIA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/09/12 -- Today, ProjectPlan.com announced that it was competing with Microsoft Project, by releasing its Project Planning Software online.

Used by NASA, the United Nations and 7000 customers around the world, the Company is already gaining substantial market share in the online project planning space. Originally created as an online equivalent of Microsoft Project, the product has expanded to include not just all of the most commonly used features from Microsoft tools, but an online dashboard, charts and reports. These additional features give it an edge over Microsoft Project as it is also cheaper and simpler to use, at just $25 per user per month.

"We've also fully integrated Project Plan with the Microsoft platform by allowing customers to import their project plans, Word and Excel documents from Microsoft office" says Craig Nicholson, Technical Director for ProjectPlan.com.

"These features mean that the customer can simply import their existing project plan into the online tool and immediately share it with their colleagues. The system also automatically populates the dashboard and reports so that they can see real time, the status of their projects."

At the crux of the product is its Gantt Chart which enables users to create Microsoft Project like plans and share them with their colleagues online. The Gantt chart is allows up to 10,000 tasks to be created on a single webpage, which Nicholson says is the best in the market at present.

After creating the Gantt chart online, the Company extended the software further in 2011 by adding Task Software so that users could manage tasks across multiple projects at the same time. One of the unique features within the ProjectPlan.com is the ability to be able to see the actual, planned and baseline views all at the same time. This unique feature allows users to identify whether they are ahead or behind schedule. As team members are updating their task status daily, their Manager can view real-time, whether they are currently on track.

Last month, the Company released their Project Scheduling Software on the iPad, iPhone and Google Android platforms. This enables users to access their tasks from any mobile device. ProjectPlan.com is one of the few applications in the World that is fully integrated with Google Apps including Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Docs. With over 300,000 Project Managers and team members in their community, the Company is growing quickly.

In the future, ProjectPlan.com will be fully integrated with the Salesforce platform, so that users can share their customer data with their project data online. This will enable larger Organizations to manage entire portfolios of work, at the Enterprise level.

The Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advances increase efficiency of a resource, it results in an overall increase in consumption. Writing on the increased use of coal as a result of technological improvements, 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons found that these improvements led to the development of new ways to utilize coal. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Mark Thiele, Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera, compared the Jevons Paradox to modern-day enterprise IT, examin...
