Swipp to Unlock the Wisdom of the World

Announces Global Social Intelligence Platform, Commercial and Consumer Apps

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/23/13 -- Swipp launches the world's first social intelligence platform with applications designed to take every day social expressions and turn them into a new type of living, social data. With Swipp, people can get rich information about any topic in the world, learning and participating in the conversation while tracking what the world thinks about that topic in real-time.

Swipp believes that the collective knowledge of the social graph is of extreme value as it represents what everyone is thinking at any particular time. When collected, aggregated and displayed, that information creates a better-informed world.

"For the first time in human history, we have over a billion people connected to each other, which has produced an enormous amount of data but very little insight," said Don Thorson, CEO and co-founder of Swipp.

"Our goal at Swipp is to take all the ideas, thoughts and comments that are currently being lost and bring them together in meaningful new ways that can be used by people, businesses and developers alike."

Swipp For People

Swipp has iPhone, web and mobile web apps that let people say what they think about something and instantly find out what the rest of the world thinks about that same topic. But beyond that -- and more importantly -- Swipp is a social intelligence platform that moves the act of sharing your thoughts and ideas through social media from a flat, linear experience to a deep, knowledge-centric experience fueled by users from all over the world.

Swipp's consumer applications let you search among millions of topics, speak your mind and simply "swipp it." Your comments enter a social stream around that topic so you can see what other people say, how they're reacting to a topic, and even photos that they're uploading around that topic. The data is available in real-time as well as over time, so you can see how people swipped at any point. You can also filter the information by friends, location, age and gender.

Swipp For Businesses

Swipp is also launching Swipp Plus, which brings the global social conversation directly to any website or application. Instead of sending visitors out to secondary platforms, businesses gather information locally so reaction to their content or products remain on their website.

Swipp Plus widgets bring businesses added content and customer engagement by letting visitors view the "living information" while also letting them join the conversation around the specified topic. The Swipp platform pulls in data from all Swipp sources, resulting in a global, aggregated view of what the world thinks of their brand, product or content.

Swipp For Developers

Swipp is architected with an open API that will enable developers to integrate social intelligence directly into their existing products or create entirely new applications on their own -- unlocking a new layer of insight while adding immediate value to their customers. All current Swipp products are built on this architecture, and third party developers will be able to request access to the APIs later in the year.

The Global Nature of Swipp

Social media has no borders, so neither does Swipp. At launch, the app and platform will be available in five languages: English, French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. The Swipp app is pre-populated with millions of terms, which will be reconciled across the languages to allow for a real global experience, and an aggregated global view off that topic.

To make sure that the experience is also authentically local, Swipp has engaged an on-the-ground network of social ambassadors in the US, UK, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Portugal and France who will ensure that local topics and trends are accurately represented.

How to get Swipp

Swipp is available for the iPhone and is also available as a rich web-based experience. You can download the iPhone app from the Apple App Store or go to www.swipp.com to start swipping from your computer.

As enterprises work to take advantage of Big Data technologies, they frequently become distracted by product-level decisions. In most new Big Data builds this approach is completely counter-productive: it presupposes tools that may not be a fit for development teams, forces IT to take on the burden of evaluating and maintaining unfamiliar technology, and represents a major up-front expense. In his session at @BigDataExpo at @ThingsExpo, Andrew Warfield, CTO and Co-Founder of Coho Data, will dis...

Most people haven’t heard the word, “gamification,” even though they probably, and perhaps unwittingly, participate in it every day. Gamification is “the process of adding games or game-like elements to something (as a task) so as to encourage participation.” Further, gamification is about bringing game mechanics – rules, constructs, processes, and methods – into the real world in an effort to engage people. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Robert Endo, owner and engagement manager of Intrepid D...
Eighty percent of a data scientist’s time is spent gathering and cleaning up data, and 80% of all data is unstructured and almost never analyzed. Cognitive computing, in combination with Big Data, is changing the equation by creating data reservoirs and using natural language processing to enable analysis of unstructured data sources. This is impacting every aspect of the analytics profession from how data is mined (and by whom) to how it is delivered. This is not some futuristic vision: it's ha...
WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong.
Learn how IoT, cloud, social networks and last but not least, humans, can be integrated into a seamless integration of cooperative organisms both cybernetic and biological. This has been enabled by recent advances in IoT device capabilities, messaging frameworks, presence and collaboration services, where devices can share information and make independent and human assisted decisions based upon social status from other entities. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Michael Heydt, founder of Seamless...

There are so many tools and techniques for data analytics that even for a data scientist the choices, possible systems, and even the types of data can be daunting. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Chris Harrold, Global CTO for Big Data Solutions for EMC Corporation, showed how to perform a simple, but meaningful analysis of social sentiment data using freely available tools that take only minutes to download and install. Participants received the download information, scripts, and complete end-t...
For manufacturers, the Internet of Things (IoT) represents a jumping-off point for innovation, jobs, and revenue creation. But to adequately seize the opportunity, manufacturers must design devices that are interconnected, can continually sense their environment and process huge amounts of data. As a first step, manufacturers must embrace a new product development ecosystem in order to support these products.
Manufacturing connected IoT versions of traditional products requires more than multiple deep technology skills. It also requires a shift in mindset, to realize that connected, sensor-enabled “things” act more like services than what we usually think of as products. In his session at @ThingsExpo, David Friedman, CEO and co-founder of Ayla Networks, discussed how when sensors start generating detailed real-world data about products and how they’re being used, smart manufacturers can use the dat...
When it comes to IoT in the enterprise, namely the commercial building and hospitality markets, a benefit not getting the attention it deserves is energy efficiency, and IoT’s direct impact on a cleaner, greener environment when installed in smart buildings. Until now clean technology was offered piecemeal and led with point solutions that require significant systems integration to orchestrate and deploy. There didn't exist a 'top down' approach that can manage and monitor the way a Smart Buildi...
