NuoDB Announces ISV Partner Program

Company's initiative designed to help Application Vendors move to the cloud

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- NuoDB, Inc., the leader in distributed database technology, today announced a further expansion of its global partner program. The company is now offering independent software vendors (ISVs) access to free software, specialized training, and NuoDB's database experts. Using NuoDB's distributed SQL database technology can deliver their products on public and private clouds, with on-demand capacity, continuous availability and geo-distributed operation.

Cloud cited as highest priority

An estimated 60% of technology leaders recently listed "cloud computing" as their top priority (source) and 2014 is projected to be the year that more than 50% of apps will be served from the cloud (source). As a result, unsurprisingly, enterprise and mid-market application vendors are in the process of implementing cloud and software-as-a-service (SaaS) strategies, as well as enabling their customers to deploy on-premise apps in more flexible, scale-out ways.

ISVs choose multiple criteria as critical to cloud success.

On-demand capacity -- the ability to easily accommodate peaks and valleys in application demand -- is often the first advantage in migrating or building applications in the cloud. Immediately following scaling, ISVs tackle other tangible requirements to being cloud-scale, including continuous availability, being secure out of the box, working across multiple datacenters and having provisioning interfaces as first-class components.

Benefits of the NuoDB ISV Partner Program

The NuoDB solution allows software vendors to more rapidly address this tidal wave of customer demand by offering benefits such as:

  • Scaling out/in while also automatically handling unexpected spikes or failures;
  • Continuous availability in the face of failure and for a wide variety of maintenance tasks
  • Being highly secure out of the box, with authentication of all connections and encryption of all data;
  • Running as a single, logical database across multiple datacenters;
  • Treating provisioning interfaces as first-class components;
  • Meeting or beating ISV SQL checklists;
  • Simplification and cost reduction in the deployment, configuration and administration of a NuoDB cloud database.

The new program offers participants:

  • Free NuoDB software
  • Specialized training and documentation
  • Onsite support from a NuoDB solutions engineer
  • Ongoing technical support.

Supporting quotes

"Traditional scale-up database systems are not cloud-native, and are both costly and cumbersome without delivering on the promise of the cloud," stated Barry Morris, NuoDB CEO and Co-Founder. "Because NuoDB was designed specifically for the cloud, it provides the benefits ISVs are looking for, like simplicity, flexibility, continuous availability, and active/active operation across datacenters."

"ISVs need something out of the box that's secure, flexible enough to solve a variety of problems, easy to automate and resilient in the face of failure," said Seth Proctor, NuoDB CTO.

"Starting from its distributed architecture NuoDB provides a powerful building block for on-premise, public cloud or any other deployment model that needs active-active properties," concluded Proctor.

In addition to all the benefits, IoT is also bringing new kind of customer experience challenges - cars that unlock themselves, thermostats turning houses into saunas and baby video monitors broadcasting over the internet. This list can only increase because while IoT services should be intuitive and simple to use, the delivery ecosystem is a myriad of potential problems as IoT explodes complexity. So finding a performance issue is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack.

A critical component of any IoT project is what to do with all the data being generated. This data needs to be captured, processed, structured, and stored in a way to facilitate different kinds of queries. Traditional data warehouse and analytical systems are mature technologies that can be used to handle certain kinds of queries, but they are not always well suited to many problems, particularly when there is a need for real-time insights.
IoT generates lots of temporal data. But how do you unlock its value? You need to discover patterns that are repeatable in vast quantities of data, understand their meaning, and implement scalable monitoring across multiple data streams in order to monetize the discoveries and insights.
