EMC's Cloud Supremo Speaking Next Week at SYS-CON's Cloud Computing Expo November 19-21 in Silicon Valley

Mike Feinberg will give breakout session on Deployment of Cloud Technologies

"The movement of information and services out of the data center and into the Cloud can unleash fear in many of us," concedes EMC's Cloud supremo Mike Feinberg, Senior VP of the storage giant's Cloud Infrastructure and Services Division. Cloud technologies nonetheless offer many benefits over traditional IT systems, Feinberg argues - "Especially when managing the size and vastness of unstructured data and unpredictable growth in IT environments," he notes.

"Trusting that your information is secure, accessible and protected is important, and deciding what information remains inside and outside of the cloud can be critical to the success of your business," insists Feinberg, who will be giving a breakout session at SYS-CON's Cloud Computing Expo, in San Jose, CA - which is being held November 19-21, 2008.

His session, called "Trusting the Cloud: Timing and Adoption of Cloud Technologies," will examine when it make senses to adopt cloud technologies and migrate a set of IT services to the cloud and discuss how to optimize the deployment of cloud technologies and the options that exist for migrating information to the cloud.

Feinberg is Senior Vice President of the Cloud Infrastructure Group at EMC Corporation. He joined EMC to lead the Technology Ventures Group which was formed in May of 2006 with the objective of addressing emerging customer and technology trends and delivering products and solutions that will revolutionize existing IT paradigms. In February of 2008, EMC created a new division to focus on the emerging opportunities for cloud-based solutions and services.

Mike Feinberg is part of a star-studded lineup of speakers at SYS-CON's 1st International Cloud Computing Confernce & Expo. Between them, they'll be covering every aspect of the hottest IT topic for years, with not just Amazon but also IBM, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Intel, HP and a host of others all offering, using or developing high-end computing services typically described as “cloud computing” - through which massively scalable IT-related capabilities are provided as a service using Internet technologies.

Forrester Research analyst James Staten calls cloud computing "classic disruptive innovation - where the mainstream dismisses the product and small companies have time to create a real differentiated value." But there are so many offerings just now that what infrastructure architects are looking for above all is a set of organizing principles they can use to guide them in choosing between them all.

Such principles. and a host of associated topics, will be addressed in San Jose by a Top Speaker Faculty that includes:

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
Blockchain is a new buzzword that promises to revolutionize the way we manage data. If the data is stored in a blockchain there is no need for a middleman - the distributed database is stored on multiple and there is no need to have a centralized server that will ensure that the transactions can be trusted. The best way to understand how a blockchain works is to build one. During this presentation, we'll start with covering the basics (hash, nounce, block, smart contracts) and then we'll crea...
History of how we got here. What IoT devices are most vulnerable? This presentation will demonstrate where hacks are most successful, through hardware, software, firmware or the radio connected to the network. The hacking of IoT devices and systems explained in 6 basic steps. On the other side, protecting devices continue to be a challenging effort. Product vendors/developers and customers are all responsible for improving IoT device security. The top 10 vulnerabilities will be presented a...
As the fourth industrial revolution continues to march forward, key questions remain related to the protection of software, cloud, AI, and automation intellectual property. Recent developments in Supreme Court and lower court case law will be reviewed to explain the intricacies of what inventions are eligible for patent protection, how copyright law may be used to protect application programming interfaces (APIs), and the extent to which trademark and trade secret law may have expanded relev...
Never mind that we might not know what the future holds for cryptocurrencies and how much values will fluctuate or even how the process of mining a coin could cost as much as the value of the coin itself - cryptocurrency mining is a hot industry and shows no signs of slowing down. However, energy consumption to mine cryptocurrency is one of the biggest issues facing this industry. Burning huge amounts of electricity isn't incidental to cryptocurrency, it's basically embedded in the core of "mini...

Every organization is facing their own Digital Transformation as they attempt to stay ahead of the competition, or worse, just keep up. Each new opportunity, whether embracing machine learning, IoT, or a cloud migration, seems to bring new development, deployment, and management models. The results are more diverse and federated computing models than any time in our history.

Where many organizations get into trouble, however, is that they try to have a broad and deep knowledge in each of these areas. This is a huge blow to an organization's productivity. By automating or outsourcing some of these pieces, such as databases, infrastructure, and networks, your team can instead focus on development, testing, and deployment. Further, organizations that focus their attention on these areas can eventually move to a test-driven development structure that condenses several l...
