Offer only good through Christmas Eve

On Sunday Radio Shack started dangling a $99.99 Atom-based netbook from Acer in front of the American consumer, becoming the first major US retailer to cut that deep.

To qualify for that price, customers have to sign a two-year AT&T DataConnect mobile broadband service agreement. Said agreements start at $60 a month. The offer is only good through Christmas Eve.

Besides its integrated 3G wireless functionality, the 2.44 lb XP Home-based black widget's also got full Wi-Fi capability as well as 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive, built-in Web cam and memory card readers and an 8.9-inch LCD screen.
